Who Created FileSlim and Why?

I'm Juraj Cukan, a Computer Science student at Comenius University (Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science) in Bratislava, Slovakia. I built FileSlim entirely on my own because I was frustrated with the compression tools available:

• Expensive subscriptions - Good tools wanted $10-30/month just to shrink files
• Poor quality results - Free tools made images look terrible or added watermarks
• Privacy nightmares - Having to upload sensitive files to random servers felt wrong
• Overcomplicated interfaces - Desktop software was bloated and confusing

Working alone from my dorm room in Bratislava, I spent months researching compression algorithms, learning WebAssembly optimization, and designing a system that processes files entirely client-side. In 2025, FileSlim now includes cutting-edge features: JPEG XL support (20-60% better compression), Content-Aware compression with 3x3 zone detection, Algorithm Comparison panel with SSIM quality scores, and multi-format testing (JPEG, WebP, AVIF, JXL). Since launch, FileSlim has processed over 50 million files, achieved 73% average file size reduction, and maintained a perfect security record (zero data breaches, because your files never touch my servers). I continue to develop FileSlim as a free tool, driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to professional compression without sacrificing privacy.
